Project Abhijatrik: Empowering Future Leaders with Life Skills


Project Abhijatrik is a high school capstone project aimed at equipping grade 6 and 7 students with essential life skills. The goal of this project is to empower these young learners with practical knowledge that will help them navigate various real-world situations and challenges. Project Abhijatrik is not just about imparting knowledge but also about fostering confidence and self-reliance among students.


Why Project Abhijatrik is Important:

Life skills are crucial for personal development and well-being. By teaching students practical life skills, we prepare them for a more independent and responsible future. These skills enhance their ability to handle everyday situations and contribute to their overall resilience and adaptability. Project Abhijatrik seeks to address the gap in traditional education by providing hands-on training in four key areas: medical emergency skills, home repair skills, cooking, and fire emergency skills.


Curriculum Overview


1. Medical Emergency Skills

   - Basics of first aid: CPR, wound cleaning, and bandaging.

   - Recognizing common medical emergencies: choking, burns, and allergic reactions.

   - How to call for help and provide vital information to medical professionals.

   - Role-playing exercises and simulations of medical emergencies.


2. Home Repair Skills:

   - Understanding basic tools and their uses.

   - Fixing common household problems: leaky faucets, electrical outlets, and squeaky doors.

   - Safety precautions while working with tools.

   - Hands-on practice with supervised guidance.


3. Cooking:

   - Basic kitchen safety and hygiene.

   - Preparing simple and nutritious meals.

   - Meal planning and budgeting.

   - Cooking demonstrations and group cooking sessions.


4. Fire Emergency Skills:

   - Fire prevention and safety measures at home and school.

   - How to use a fire extinguisher.

   - Evacuation procedures and meeting points.

   - Fire drill exercises and fire safety games.




Sustainability for the project


To ensure the continuity of Project Abhijatrik, the measures that have been taken by far. 


1. Curriculum Documentation: Created detailed lesson plans, instructional materials, and resources for each life skill category. Organize these materials in an easily accessible format, such as digital documents, or YouTube videos.


2. Teacher Training: Trained the two permanent assistant teachers who will take over the project on the curriculum and teaching methods. Conduct workshops and hands-on sessions to ensure they are comfortable with delivering the content.

3. Establish a Project Website: Created a dedicated section in the school website named stem and skill development where all project materials, including the curriculum, instructional videos, and resources, are accessible to teachers and students.

4. Established School YouTube channel: Created a YouTube channel for students where they can regularly post videos demonstrating their learning. :

5. Monitoring and Feedback: Arranged regular meetings with the permanent teachers, parents, and students to monitor the project's progress. Encouraged teachers to collect feedback from students and make necessary adjustments to the curriculum as needed.

Impact of the project 



In the three months since the inception of Project Abhijatrik, significant progress has been made, and its impact on the school community is already evident. This project Directly impacted 1160 people including Students, Parents of the students, Other family members, the Headteacher, and Assistant teachers. Indirectly benefited approximately 360 people including Students from other classes, Students’ parents, and Neighbors. 


 The project's focus on life skills education has led to several positive developments:


1. Installation of Fire Extinguishers: The school has taken a proactive step in enhancing safety by installing fire extinguishers throughout the school premises. This initiative not only aligns with the fire emergency skills module of Project Abhijatrik but also reinforces a safer learning environment for all students and staff.


2. First Aid Boxes in Every Section: First aid boxes are now readily available in all sections of grades 6 and 7. This ensures that in case of minor accidents or medical emergencies, immediate assistance can be provided. Students and teachers alike have easy access to essential first aid supplies, promoting a culture of safety and preparedness.


3. Access to Home Repair Tools: The school's decision to make home repair tools accessible to students is a significant step toward empowering them with practical skills. This not only complements the home repair skills module of the project but also encourages students to apply their knowledge in real-life situations, fostering a sense of responsibility and self-reliance.


4. Increased Safety Awareness: As a result of Project Abhijatrik, students and teachers have become more aware of safety practices and emergency response protocols. The project has contributed to a heightened sense of safety consciousness within the school community.


5. Positive Student Engagement: Students have actively participated in the various modules of the project, displaying enthusiasm for learning life skills. The hands-on nature of the training has not only captured their interest but has also boosted their confidence in applying these skills.
